Neighborly Kitchen in Brentwood: What to Order for a Family Sunday

Some Sunday nights nobody wants to cook, and nobody agrees on what to order either. That is the problem Neighborly Kitchen and Marketplace in Brentwood solved for us. We had dinner delivered from there, and all four of us got what we actually wanted from one place. It’s a multi-concept kitchen bringing together some well-known LA food brands under one roof, which makes it easy to feed two kids with very different taste buds without everyone compromising.

What We Ordered

I had the Miso Salmon Bowl from What’s Gaby Cooking (Gaby Dalkin’s brand). Well-roasted salmon with a miso glaze that gave it a good umami hit. Brad and I also split the Chinese Chicken Salad, also from Gaby’s lineup, which arrived crisp instead of soggy: cabbage, cilantro, and crunchy wontons.

Brad also got Papa Hov’s Steak Plate from Mini Kabob. Mini Kabob is an LA institution, and getting it through Neighborly Kitchen was a nice surprise. Fire-roasted marinated steak, tender and well-seasoned, with house hummus, tzatziki, and fresh lavash. The shirazi salad (cucumber, tomato, pickled red onion) on the side cut through the richness well.

For the kids, we went with Mix Tape, a brand doing better-for-you versions of classic kid food (no seed oils). One daughter had the Classic Crispy Chicken Sandwich, the breading held up surprisingly well even after delivery, and the other had the tender box set.

The Birthday Cake Cookies were the actual highlight of the night: soft, nostalgic, with that specific birthday-cake flavor that works on kids and adults equally.

Why Neighborly Kitchen Works for a Family Sunday

The appeal of a place like Neighborly Kitchen isn’t just the food, it’s that everyone in the family can order from a different kitchen without anyone compromising, and it still feels like a curated meal instead of random takeout. If you’re using the inKind app to manage your dining budget, it’s worth checking whether Neighborly Kitchen is on there before you order.

How It Held Up for Delivery

Delivery is where a lot of restaurant food falls apart, so this was the real test. The Chinese Chicken Salad arrived crisp instead of soggy, and the breading on the crispy chicken sandwich held up surprisingly well. For a family dinner eaten at our own kitchen table, it felt a lot closer to a restaurant meal than most takeout does.

What We Would Order Again

There wasn’t a miss in the order. If I had to narrow it down: Papa Hov’s Steak Plate from Mini Kabob for anyone who wants a real dinner, the Chinese Chicken Salad to share, the Classic Crispy Chicken Sandwich for the kids, and the Birthday Cake Cookies for everyone. Next time we want to try Palermo Pizza Club.

Good to Know Before You Order From Neighborly Kitchen

Neighborly Kitchen and Marketplace is at 11754 San Vicente Blvd in Brentwood, open 11am to 9pm daily. There’s a parking lot off San Vicente, and you can walk in, order takeout, or have it delivered: no reservations needed. Besides the kitchens we ordered from, there’s also Palermo Pizza Club doing Sicilian-style pizza (on our list for next time), plus a small marketplace section with grab-and-go and specialty grocery items worth a look while you’re there.
