Fig in Santa Monica: What to Expect
Fig is inside the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows on Wilshire in Santa Monica. We’ve been for brunch more often than dinner — the farmers market connection is strongest at that meal, and the outdoor garden seating works especially well on a warm Saturday morning with nowhere else to be. This visit was one of the rare times we came for dinner instead of brunch, which gave us a chance to see how the kitchen and service hold up outside that relaxed weekend crowd.
Happy Hour, and What’s on the Menu
We first discovered Fig during a happy hour visit (read our full review of that visit). The room was relaxed, a mix of locals unwinding after work and hotel guests finding the place for the first time. The menu leans into California classics: hand-crafted cocktails with local herbs and house infusions, fresh oysters and shrimp cocktail, truffle fries, flatbreads, artisan cheeses, and mini burgers and seasonal pasta meant for sharing.
What We Ordered
Fig sources many of its ingredients from the Santa Monica Farmers Market, and it shows. I went with the house-made gnocchi in sage brown butter, finished with shaved Parmesan — tender, buttery, and not trying too hard. My wife ordered the prime steak with herb butter, grilled to a proper medium-rare and served with seasonal roasted vegetables.
Our daughters got the kids’ chicken nuggets, which are actually made from free-range chicken breast, hand-battered rather than the frozen kind most places serve, and came with house-made honey mustard and ranch that disappeared fast.
On the drink side, I had a Cucumber Basil Gimlet and my wife had the Fig Mule, a seasonal twist on a Moscow Mule made with fig syrup and fresh lime. The girls went through a round of berry spritzers — muddled fruit and soda water. Service
Our server, Michael, remembered us from a previous visit — specifically that our daughters had loved the chicken nuggets last time, and he joked that they’d have to “upgrade” to something new eventually. Water glasses got refilled without us noticing, and the pacing between courses never felt rushed or slow. That consistency wasn’t luck — it’s what keeps us coming back to Fig whenever we want a reliable family dinner in Santa Monica.
Dessert
Don’t skip it. Our favorite was the Butterscotch Pot de Crème, topped with salted caramel and whipped cream.
